Citicoline is an intermediate product of cell membrane metabolism, which is required as an essential building block for the biosynthesis of cell membrane phospholipids**.

Magnesium citrate and zinc citrate are each an organic compound of the mineral with citric acid. Citrate is best known for the citric acid cycle, a cycle of biochemical reactions that plays an important role in metabolism and is primarily used for energy production.
